About The Author & Editor
Anne Thomas teaches English in Sendai Japan, her home of 22 years. Formerly an Associate Instructor at Shokei Women’s College for 15 years, she currently teaches at Miyagi Women’s University, as well as private classes.
Originally from Maryland, Anne received her BA in Art from the University of Rhode Island, her Masters in Education from George Washington University, and her Certification to Teach English as a Foreign Language from International House, London.
Prior to settling in Japan, Anne traveled extensively throughout virtually every continent and corner of the globe for 15 years, during which she taught for extended periods in Spain, Morocco and Indonesia.
Letters from the Ground to the Heart – Beauty Amid Destruction is her first English language book.

Brian Penry edited and wrote the Foreword for Letters from the Ground to the Heart – Beauty Amid Destruction, as well as art directing and designing its cover and text.
A Founding Member of the Creating WE Institute, an organization dedicated to researching and furthering collaboration, Brian also contributed to the Institute’s (2009) Amazon Best Seller, 42 Rules for Creating WE – for which he also art directed the cover.
Since 1972, Brian has worked as a designer/illustrator, writer and innovator with a wide range of educational initiatives, arts & entertainment and non profit organizations and brands. He lives and works in Guilford, Connecticut, USA.
